The work of Ukrainian artist Kateryna Bilokur is known not only to Ukrainians, but also to art connoisseurs from around the world. Her talent was admired by art critics from around the world. The colors and flowers laid out on the canvas have captivated many experienced artists. Pablo Picasso said of Catherine Bilocur's paintings: "If we had an artist of this level of skill, we would make the whole world talk about her."
Kateryna Bilokur's paintings "Tsar-Kolos", "Birch" and "Collective Farm Field" were included in the exhibition of Soviet art at the International Exhibition in Paris in 1954. Then the whole world started talking about her.
The Soviet government and the conservative environment did not break her spirit and faith in the dream. An artist who did not even have a primary education and survived all the horrible pages of Ukrainian history of the last century: the revolution, the Holodomor, World War II, and, despite everything, was able to realize her vocation and dream - above all to become an artist. Such devotion to her ideal and incredible depth of the artist's works put her on a par with the world's outstanding artists of the twentieth century, many of whom, like Catherine Bilokur, were nuggets.
People's Artist of Ukraine, popular theater and film actress, presenter Olga Sumska in October 2019 created a collection of dresses RIDNA based on paintings by Kateryna Bilokur. The name RIDNA for the collection was born immediately, there were no other options - the designer admits that in the soul was just this word, and no other.
Presenting the RIDNA collection, Olga Sumska emphasized that today she is realizing the dream of her life - to become a fashion designer. "Since childhood, I dreamed of being a fashion designer. My school notebooks were painted with clothing models. I loved to draw the smallest details, I wanted to create historical costumes for theater and cinema. She sewed from the age of 14 and learned to cut according to fashion magazines. Acting in movies, she always interfered in the process of sewing a costume. I understood what color and style suits me best. In the theater, she finished the details, sewed hats and handbags herself, which surprised her colleagues very much, ”says Olga Sumska.
It is no coincidence that Kateryna Bilokur's paintings became the basis of Olga Sumska's first author's collection. Her father, actor People’s Artist Vyacheslav Sumsky, was excellent at the art of oil painting, and admired the works of Ukrainian artists Mykola Pymonenko, Maria Pryimachenko, Konstantin Trutovsky, Taras Shevchenko, Serhiy Vasylkivsky, Kateryna Bilokur, and others. It was from him that Olga inherited her love for Ukrainian art.
Project mission:
Popularization of Ukrainian cultural heritage and Ukrainian fashion in the world is the main mission of the project. Informing the general public in the countries of the world about the best examples and figures of Ukrainian culture in general and art in particular.
In the period of awakening of national self-consciousness, pearls of cultural heritage - the work of the People's Artist Kateryna Bilokur became a symbol and guardian of spiritual culture. The works of the artist have rightly become the basis of knowledge of Ukrainian art and a comprehensive understanding of the life and work of the people of Ukraine.
The RIDNA collection is designed for women of all ages. In Ukrainian clothes, a woman flourishes, she is real, her inner beauty is immediately visible. If we remember our Ukrainian traditions, clothes were passed down from generation to generation. It's so nice to wear a mother's or grandmother's shirt, because these things have tremendous energy and national memory.
So, the most important idea of the collection is to preserve the cultural heritage, our history and the best artistic heritage.
